Meant to post this a long time ago, but as I said before, I’ve been incredibly busy with school which has pretty much put everything else on hold, including my relationship with my boyfriend. We haven’t been able to spend much time together, and when we do, both of us are usually trying to catch up on work. It’s not much in the way of quality time, so earlier this week, we decided that we were going to take some time on Friday just to be together.
Unfortunately, when you’re in a long distance relationship, it kind of limits the date ideas. You’d probably get some stares if you brought your laptop and set it across from you at the Cheesecake Factory….so instead, we decided that we’d try doing a dinner date night at home. Something we’ve never tried before.
First step, food.
When I got home from class, I ordered “to go” shrimp alfredo and cheese sticks from Olive Garden. One of my all time favorite restaurants. For dessert, I went to Gigi’s, a local cupcake shop, and got a wedding cake cupcake. My boyfriend ended up getting Indian food instead of Italian like we agreed upon, but hey, food is food, I guess.
Next step, atmosphere.
Unfortunately, my roommate was in the apartment, and I didn’t want to disturb her, so I couldn’t use the kitchen table. Instead, I flipped a laundry basket over for the table, brought a chair over to set my laptop on, and sat across from it in my big, round, fuzzy chair. To try and set the mood, I ended up turning off the overhead light and turning on the lamp behind me (you know, for the dim lighting effect). I wish I had time to decorate with fairy lights or something, but hey, it was our first time. It wasn’t the most glamorous set up, but when you really love someone, you don’t need fancy tablecloths or a nice restaurant for a night to be romantic.
Unlike the atmosphere, I decided to go all out on the clothes and makeup. After all, I don’t get many opportunities to dress up with my boyfriend being in New Zealand and all….My outfit consisted of a new red romper I recently bought from Maurices, and some cream, lace wedges also from Maurices (let’s be honest, almost all my wardrobe comes from there, and I have the bill to prove it….).
I also got to try out my new Revlon liquid lipstick. I’ve been hearing a lot of really great reviews about it, so I finally went out and bought one. I can honestly say it’s worth the hype. It was incredibly easy to apply, dried fast, and the color was perfect. I’ll definitely be buying more later.
Overall, it turned out to be a really great night. It was incredibly nice just to have a night where we could focus on each other and de-stress from the last week. We shared a lot of much needed laughs (mostly about how much food I was eating….), and even though the setting was less than perfect with a laundry basket for a table, it felt perfect just being together. Try it out with your own significant other, even if he isn’t a country away. It’s fun to go all out and dress up every once in a while, and doing something at home can be much more intimate than going out to a restaurant. Let me know what you think!
